Maths learning

In parking meters downtown, you can get 15 minutes parking for 50c. Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm.
At what time did the parking meter expire?

This was our group problem for group problem solving at maths time today.  We had to first work out how long Dad got for parking. We then had to add on our answer to the time Dad put the money into the meter and that's how we got our answer. We ended up with this strategy.
$3.00 in the parking meter = 1hr 30mins
50c in the parking meter = 15 mins
1hr 30 + 15 = 1hr 45mins
3.15pm + 1hr 45mins = Dad will have his car parked until 5.00pm

problem solving

At maths time we did a group problem solving problem about dogs. We had to work out the ages of the dogs. The problem read:
I have three dogs of different ages. If I plus them together I will get 15 and of I multiply I will get 45
How old are my dogs?
We had to write down three different numbers to get 15 and then multiply them and try and get 45.
I found that challenging. But sadly we did not get the answer in time. It was a different type of problem that I have not done before but I liked it anyway.

problem solving

On Tuesday at maths time my group had to work out a basketball cap problem. In the first problem we had to try and work out how many weeks Aria sells caps for. The average number of caps she sold was eight per week and in the end she sold 32 caps. We started of guessing and we guessed 4 weeks, then we put the number 10 in week ones column, the number 6 in week twos, the number 4 in week threes and the number 12 in week fours column. Then we did:
10+6=16
16+4=20
20+12=32
So the answer was four weeks.
