The Miracle of CTRL Y
Today we made fake news reports using Wevideo. This is my first time using Wevideo and I found it fun and hard. Our one was about using CTRL Y if CTRL Z does not work. I made mine with Romie and Rosanna and I was a lot of fun to do. I found it hard to record myself as a different person almost losing everything but found it fun to put in music, draw the intro and put it all together. Next time I might slow down in talking when I record myself instead of zooming through talking.
Spring
Today we had to write about spring. Mine is a little hard to read because I wrote quite a bit. I found this very fun to do because I enjoy writing. Although I did find it challenging because at one point I ran out of ideas. Next time I might write a little less so that it can be easier to read.

My definitely real postcard ;)
Today we were to tell the difference between real and fake things online. We had to make a postcard and get people to try and tell the difference between real and fake. What do you think? I found it fun and quite easy because I have been to Thailand before.

My Inquiry on scratch
Over the past term, we have been researching to find answers to our questions about sustainability. We had to create a Powtoon, animation or a scratch to show the things that we learnt. I decided to do a scratch because I had never done one before and I had already done a powtoon and an animation. I found this so fun but frustrating at the same time. We had to try to find out how to put our voice on and it took me ages to record me saying everything that I had written down. It was overall a great learning experience.

My speech
Conformity
Have you ever agreed with someone even though they’re not right? Have you ever not done what you wanted to do just so you don’t stand out? Have you ever gone along with the crowd so that you’re not different? This is called conformity. Otherwise known as fitting in, not wanting to stand out or following the crowd. Conformity can make you forget that you are special and unique. You shouldn’t change that for the world. Firstly, let’s look at some everyday types of conformity - like following fashion. So, say your friend cruises into class wearing a mind blowingly crazy outfit which looks a bit ridiculous. She tells you that everyone on Instagram is wearing it and you notice others start to follow. BUT what do you know? You’re going to the store to buy the exact same outfit even though you know you’ll look like a prize turkey. It is so easy to be influenced by others because we always want to fit in, to be like everyone else. But, conformity is not ok when you change important things about yourself. Secondly, did you know that lots of research has been done on conformity? The famous Asch experiment showed that 75 percent of the students their gave an answer they knew to be wrong just to fit in with the group. 75%! That means that ¾ of us will change our opinions and ideas just to be like everyone else. It’s important to remember to be true to yourself and know which things to stand up for - even if it makes you ‘different’. We should always try to live up to our own dreams, form our own opinions, love what we love and feel good about the way we treat others. But there are some times when it is ok to conform. For example: If we all don’t conform with traffic lights and go when we see red... Absolute chaos. Having manners, you I can instantly know that this is a good way, is also conforming. How would we know if we liked something if we hadn't seen someone else wearing or doing it? Lastly, remember that everyone has a time when they conform its part of being human. I’ve learned, your listening and I hope that later on you will learn too. But just remember to not ever forget and let the things that are important to you wash away. You need to remember who you are. No one else chooses for you. Your you and everyone else is taken. The only part that counts is the inside not what you look like. You are beautiful just the way you are. As August’s sister Via says in the book Wonder: “You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out”Thank You
I loved writing my speech. I had already known what the topic was going to be from the start of the year. Sharing my speech in front of everyone was harder but I managed to get into the speech finals. I did not place but I had fun all the same.

2019 calendar art
On the 3rd-4th of september we started doing our calendar art. What we had to do this year was colour blending in the lines going across our owl pictures. We had two choices. We could either colour blend with pastels in the lines or we could do zentangle patterns in the lines and go over with dye. I decided to go with colour blending because I have tried to do zentangle but I found it quite hard.
Maths learning
In parking meters downtown, you can get 15 minutes parking for 50c. Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm.
At what time did the parking meter expire?
This was our group problem for group problem solving at maths time today. We had to first work out how long Dad got for parking. We then had to add on our answer to the time Dad put the money into the meter and that's how we got our answer. We ended up with this strategy.
$3.00 in the parking meter = 1hr 30mins
50c in the parking meter = 15 mins
1hr 30 + 15 = 1hr 45mins
3.15pm + 1hr 45mins = Dad will have his car parked until 5.00pm

My polyline profile pic
At school for cybersmart we had to create a picture of ourselves using shapes. I quite like how mine turned out. We had to take a photo of ourselves and put them on a slide. We then had to polyline half of our face and when we finished half of our face we could decide if we wanted to do half of our face and leave the other side of our face a photo or we could cover our whole face. I had lots of fun doing it.

Crosswords
At reading we did some crossword puzzles. They were to help make our vocabulary better. We had to use our brains atlas's and dictionaries to find out the answer. We were not allowed to use devices. I learnt lots of new words. Such as tremor- earthquake shakes, cockpit- where pilots sit and atoll- an island with water in the middle.

My emoji
On Wednesday I was shocked to see that someone had dumped a whole wheelie bin of rubbish outside our hall. There were printers, telephones, binders, wet paper and empty food and drink packets and bottles. We had to create an emoji symbolizing what we felt when we saw the rubbish. I was speechless.

Environment center trip
On the 30th of July we left school at 9:30 to go on a walk to the environment center. On the way there we went to the Botanical Gardens to eat some morning tea and have a little play. We then walked to the library to browse around for books. The kids that brought their library cards got to return or issue books. This was my favourite part of the trip. We stayed at the library for 20 minutes before we started making our way to the Enviro Center. When we got there we still had 15 minutes to wait so we had some lunch. We went in in little groups. We sat down on the mat and waited for Kirsty (the instructor) to begin. She told us that we would be doing rotations for all of the activities we would be doing. My favourite part was when we did and outdoor scavenger hunt. We had to look for things that could be reused in the garden etc etc. I found this whole experience fun all the same.
Autumn Tree
At writing time we had to try and write what it would be like to be a tree in Autumn. We had to write the things that we thought and saw from a Autumn trees point of view. I talked about the feeling of the wind blowing through my leaves and how I was scared that a lumberjack would come and cut me down. I found this activity fun and different from the writing we normally do.

Public vs Private
problem solving
At maths time we did a group problem solving problem about dogs. We had to work out the ages of the dogs. The problem read:
I have three dogs of different ages. If I plus them together I will get 15 and of I multiply I will get 45
How old are my dogs?
We had to write down three different numbers to get 15 and then multiply them and try and get 45.
I found that challenging. But sadly we did not get the answer in time. It was a different type of problem that I have not done before but I liked it anyway.

problem solving
On Tuesday at maths time my group had to work out a basketball cap problem. In the first problem we had to try and work out how many weeks Aria sells caps for. The average number of caps she sold was eight per week and in the end she sold 32 caps. We started of guessing and we guessed 4 weeks, then we put the number 10 in week ones column, the number 6 in week twos, the number 4 in week threes and the number 12 in week fours column. Then we did:
10+6=16
16+4=20
20+12=32
So the answer was four weeks.

the history of pavlova
The history of pavlova
Pavlova was in fact made by a hotel chef in Wellington. Why? well the famous Anna Pavlova the ballerina toured there in 1926 when she toured New Zealand and Australia. The chef in the hotel wanted to create a dish that resembled her. So he made the pavlova reminding him, of Anna's tutu.

2019
Being a Year 6 this year feels the same as last year apart from some new kids in the class, I have the same homeroom the same teacher and most of the students are the same to. So being a Year 6 is not as exciting as most Year 6's.😐
This year I look forward to swimming sports, Mangapapa Idol and Mangapapa Kid day. I also look forward to our classes art day and definitely excited for Year 6 camp. I am also so excited for Year 6 prize giving!
I am so not saying that it was boring last year I mean I wanted the same teacher and I like my class but I am just comparing most Year 6,s to most of this years Year 6 neighborhood. I will like this year anyway so what am I on about. Anyway, watch out 2019 here I come!
